Contraception în diabetic women

E. Antoine, A. Leontescu, R. Mateescu, C. Teodorescu, M. Mitran

Rezumat: In last 50 years the prevalence of diabetes mellitus has increased dramatically worldwide, resulting in more and more women of reproductive age being affected by either type 1 or type 2 diabetes. Women with diabetes have a higher risk for complications during pregnancy compared to women without diabetes and the current studies indicate that the risk of an unwanted pregnancy is higher then the risks of hormonal contraception. Data from recent studies reported no significant effects on glycemic control and microvascular complications. Thus, oestroprogestative pills is now recognized as a safe and effective option for women with type 1 diabetes without complications. For women with type 2 diabetes will be recommended with caution, due to frequent association with obesity and vascular risk, which increase both the thromboembolic and arterial risk. Progestogen contraceptive and non-hormonal methods are best suited for the patient with diabetes.
