Rezumat: The previous studies are contradictory regarding the necessity of correcting the second trimester markers (MoM) in accordance with the pregnant women’s Rh or the placental insertion position. The aim of this study was to assess whether the values of the second trimester markers (AFP, hCG, uE3) are influenced by the placental insertion position of the Rh of the pregnant women. We tested the second trimester markers on 1.709 pregnant women. The study included only women with singleton pregnancy, whose outcome, maternal Rh and placental insertion position at birth were known. The cases with pregnancy related pathology were excluded. The results show that there is no significant difference in MoM between the pregnant women either with negative or positive Rh, or depending on placental insertion. Our results do not entirely confirm the data from literature, the differences implying the necessity of correcting the MoM values of the unconjugated estriol at pregnant women with negative Rh. The different results need to be analyzed in more extensive studies or meta-analysis.
Cuvinte cheie: second trimester markers, corrected MoM values, pregnant women’s Rh, placental insertion.
