Differential diagnosis of structures resembling amniotic bands

O.M. Bodean, O. Munteanu, M.M. Cirstoiu

Rezumat: Amniotic bands are part of a syndrome with complex and unclear etiology. The consequences of amniotic band disease are diverse, including severe fetal malformations which may lead to intrauterine death, or constriction and amputation of limbs. A differential diagnosis of amniotic bands is made with a range of band-like structures which are usually benign to the fetus, but are a cause of anxiety for the mother who may be confronted with a possibly dramatic pregnancy outcome. This article presents data about differential diagnosis of amniotic band-like structures that we have encountered at routine ultrasound examination at patients admitted in the Emergency University Hospital in Bucharest between November 2013 and October 2014.
Cuvinte cheie: amniotic bands, circumvallate placenta, intrauterine adhesions, differential diagnosis.
