F. Isopescu, A. Muntean

Rezumat: Objectives. A downward trend in age at menarche has been recorded in recent decades. Given its implications for the health and the wellbeing of women the determinants should be identified. The aim of this study is to determine the impact of nutritional habits in the onset age of menarche. Methods. This study was conducted among 178 women aged under 25 years from Bacau County. The data was collected retrospectively in the form of a structured questionnaire that gathered information on nutritional habits and onset manarche date. The data collected was analysed using the Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS.16). Statistical significance was determined at P <0.05. Results. The average age at menarche was observed to be 13.04 years. Positive correlations were observed between the onset of the first menstruation and the main meal of the day, eating fast food products, red meat and sweets. Also preferred beverage type has an impact on pubertal development. Conclusions. The results of this study showed the presence of statistically significant correlations between the age of menarche and eating behavior.
