Unknown cause of infertility: artificial insemination or IVF?

A. Velişcu, B. Marinescu, M. Mitran, B. Luchian, L. Costoiu

Rezumat: In clinical practice the couples with unknown cause of infertility unfortunately occupy nearly 20% and raise management challenges. Which method is better suited for achieving a pregnancy? We have a batch of 182 cases of couples with infertility for at least two years, without apparent cause that had an average of 4 artificial insemination per couple. After none of the inseminations they did not achieve pregnancy. All these couples had an in vitro fertilization procedure. For a proper comparison I should have a similar group of patients with artificial insemination for infertility of unknown cause that never got to in vitro fertilization. Through in vitro fertilization they obtained a pregnancy rate of 30% overall success rate comparable to our clinic’s IVF pregnancy rate. Apparently IVF is the procedure of choice for couples with infertility of unknown cause.
Cuvinte cheie: infertility, artificial insemination, IVF.
