During the perinatal period (from the fifth month of pregnancy til the first after birth) the risk of hepatitis C transmission rises in general up to 4%.Recent research demonstrates that hepatitis C transmission to the baby may not be caused by breastfeeding. The world health organization’s recommend that mothers breastfeed. Therefore new moms need not worry in this respect.
