Rezumat: Breast milk is a very important nourishment for the baby during the first six months of life. Unfortunately, breastfeeding involves sometimes also the transmission of hepatitis from mother to baby. Hepatitis C is paucisymptomatic or asymptomatic with a gentle form
of jaundice. In most patients, the symptoms are variable. During the perinatal period (from the fifth month of pregnancy til the first after birth) the risk of hepatitis C transmission rises in general up to 4%.Recent research demonstrates that hepatitis C transmission to the baby may not be caused by breastfeeding. The world health organization’s recommend that mothers breastfeed.
