Indications and contraindications of vaginal birth post C-section

M. Boț, A. Borislavschi, M. Ichim, R. Vlădăreanu, S. Vlădăreanu

Rezumat: In recent years, the method of birth has been represented by C-section in a great proportion. C-sections are almost a rule for patients with a previous C-section in their medical history, regardless of its indicated reason. A present European consensus, issued after the study of numerous systematic evaluations of the evidence, has declared the possibility of post C-section vaginal birth, as being a viable alternative in the case of single, onterm birth, with the fetus in cephalic presentation, with antecedents of segmentary histerotomy - hysterorrhaphy as single surgical event, with or without previous vaginal births. Post C-section vaginal birth is contraindicated in pregnancies with previous uterine ruptures, as well as in those with absolute contraindications, such as placenta praevia, which apply regardless of the presence or absence of uterine scarring. If the risks and benefits of vaginal birth post C-section are explained to the patient, and if she express this desire, we believe this new tendency to be practically acceptable.
Cuvinte cheie: C-section, vaginal birth, uterine rupture, low uterine segment.
