Cervical cerclage - therapeutic method for cervical insufficiency

Rezumat: Cervical insufficiency is the main pathology which requires prophylactic cerclage of the cervix. This pathology is asymptomatic and the diagnosis is based on the patient’s obstetric history. Untreated, cervical insufficiency leads to second trimester abortion; the product of conception is not viable at such low gestational ages. Cerclage is considered effective if the pregnancy can be carried to term, respectively 37 weeks. For this paper, we conducted a retrospective study in the period 2014-2015 at Bucharest University Emergency Hospital and we evaluated different cerclage procedures performed here. In our clinic, mean gestational age at birth was 37 weeks at patients with cerclage.
