Surrogate mother

D. Stan, M. Mitran

Rezumat: A surrogate mother is a woman who gives her consent, on the basis of a notary-approved contract, to carry a pregnancy and deliver the baby for an infertile couple and freely give up any parental rights. In many countries (Spain, Holland, France) this practice is strictly forbidden by the law, while in others (Belgium, Ucraine, Georgia) it is allowed. On the other hand, Romania is currently facing a legislative shortfall in this matter. Although a set of measures to legalize surrogacy has been taken since 2012, the issue remains at a standstill without any answer from the Government. Not every woman can become a surrogate mother or a mother receiving a baby born from surrogacy. The surrogacy bill deposed in 2012 states clearly that a surrogate must be 18 to 40 years old and the intended mother 18 to maximum 47 years old.
Cuvinte cheie: surrogate mother, birth, an infertile couple.
