Birth after a caesarean section

A.A. Simionescu, S. Duţă

Rezumat: Introduction. The objective of the study is to present the experience of ”Filantropia” Hospital regarding vaginal delivery after Caesarean-section and to analyze the circumstances when it can be performed. Materials and methods. We conducted a retrospective study of the births performed in ”Filantropia” Hospital in women with previous Caesarean-section over a period of 6 months, between January 1st 2014 and June 30th 2014. We used Excell to analyze the data regarding the general characteristics of the group and the outcomes. Results. 1557 births were recorded in the studied interval. 700 Caesareansections (47.2%) were performed; an increase in the rate of Caesarean-section was noted (from 31.6% in 2003), which is according to the world trend of this rate. From the total number of Caesarean-sections, 27% were performed due to previous Caesarean section. In 5 cases the uterine scar was opened and there was one case of placenta increta that required Caesarean hysterectomy. 6 patients with previous Caesarean section had vaginal delivery. Conclusions. Previous Caesarean-section remains the most frequent reason for Caesarean birth in our study. Proper counselling of the patients and national guidelines that regulate the management of these patients could increase the number of vaginal birth after a Caesarean-section.
