Rezumat: The idea that pregnancy and childbirth are processes,
during which the mother has to manage on her own, is
completely wrong. Various studies prove that the partner’s
affection and his presence beside the pregnant woman
are factors which positively influence the birth. The times
when the father was restlessly striding along the hospital
hallway or stood outside smoking cigarette after cigarette
are gone. The cigarette must be put off, all forces gathered
together and the father has to assist the pregnant mother.
At present some hospitals allow the fathers to be present
at the moment of birth. “The fathers are much more than
merely the second adult in the household”. The involved
fathers have a positive contribution to the welfare of their
children, which no other person within the family can have.
